TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE COUNTY OF MUSKEGON, STATE OF MICHIGAN:  Notice is hereby given, that a PRIMARY ELECTION will be held in the following precincts in Muskegon County, Michigan on TUESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2023 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Nominations will be decided for the office of City of Muskegon Commissioner for Ward II and Ward IV.

 

The following millage proposals will appear on the ballot at the Tuesday, August 8, 2023 election:

MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL

FIRE DEPARTMENT OPERATING PURPOSES

 

     Shall the previously approved voted increase in the Township of Dalton’s tax rate limitation imposed by the Michigan Constitution, currently 1.1446 mills ($1.14 per $1,000 of taxable value), be renewed and levied from 2026 through and including 2042 on taxable property in the Township, to continue to provide revenue for the operation and maintenance of the Township Fire Department?

 

     It is estimated that the levy would provide revenue of $366,048 in the first calendar year of renewal. The revenue from this millage levy will be disbursed to the Township of Dalton.

 

DALTON TOWNSHIP

MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL

FIRE DEPARTMENT OPERATING PURPOSES

ADDITIONAL 0.85 MILLS FOR FIRE PROTECTION

 

     Shall the tax rate limitation for Dalton Township be increased and levied in the amount of 0.85 mills ($0.85 per $1,000 of taxable value) from 2023 through and including 2042, to provide revenue for the cost of operation and maintenance of the Township Fire Department? This is a new millage which if approved would be in addition to the current millage for fire protection purposes.

 

     It is estimated that a levy of 0.85 mills would provide revenue of $238,764.31 in the first calendar year. The revenue from this millage levy will be disbursed to the Township of Dalton.

Absentee ballots are available for all elections; registered voters may contact the local clerk to obtain an application for an absent voter ballot.

To comply with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), voting instructions will be available in audio format and in Braille. Arrangements for obtaining the instructions in these alternate formats can be made by contacting the local clerk in advance of the election. All polling locations are accessible for voters with disabilities.

The Public Accuracy Test is conducted to determine that the program and the computer being used to tabulate the results of the election, counts the votes in the manner prescribed by the law.
