  • Clerk's Office will be open the Saturday before Elections held in Dalton Township for election purposes.
  • February 27th, 2024 - Presidential Primary.
  • August 6th , 2024 - Local Primary.
  • November 5th, 2024 - General Election.

Where do I vote?

Each voter must vote in the polling place designated to serve the precinct in which they reside. This location is indicated on your voter identification card, on the Michigan Voter Information Center, or can be obtained by contacting your clerk.

When can I vote?

The polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and remain open until 8:00 p.m.
Anyone still remaining in line at 8:00 p.m. is eligible to vote.

Do I need to bring my ID?

You must show one of the following types of photo ID at the polls in order to vote:
  • Current Driver's License, Personal identification card issued by a State;
  • Federal or State or government issued photo identification;
  • -U.S. passport;
  • Military identification card with photo;
  • Student identification with photo, from a high school or an accredited institution of higher education
  • Tribal identification card with photo;
  • OR a voter may sign an affidavit form.


Are you a registered voter?
Only registered voters may vote.

How do I register to vote?

A person must be registered prior to the election they wish to vote in.
If you are unsure of your status, call your local clerk's office. You must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, and a resident of Michigan and the city/township where you are applying to register prior to the election

NOTICE REGARDING YOUR RESIDENCE ADDRESS:
Michigan law requires that the same address be used for voter registration and driver license purposes. Therefore, if the residence address you provide on the voter registration form differs from the address shown on a driver license or personal identification card issued by the State of Michigan, the Secretary of State will automatically change your driver license or personal identification card address to match the residence address entered on the voter registration form. If an address change is made, the Secretary of State will mail you an address update sticker for your driver license or personal identification card.

Absent Voter Ballots

*Voters passed Prop 18-3, which included No Reason Absent Voting.**
If wishing to vote absentee, please fill out the application here
and return to Dalton Township Clerk's office; forms are also available in office (231-766-3043). Absent Voters MUST complete an application for each and every election before a ballot can be issued to them.

Absentee ballots MUST be returned to the Dalton Township Clerk BEFORE the close of the polls on Election Day in order to be counted.

Dalton Township's Clerk's Office will be open the Saturday before the election.

If a voter needs an Absent Voter Ballot in the event of an EMERGENCY situation ON Election Day, please call the Dalton Township Clerk at 231-766-2636.

Dalton Township maintains a Permanent Absent Voter list, registered voters can sign up to be on this list and will automatically be sent an application to request an absentee voter ballot. To be added to this permanent list, please fill complete this form.

What is the Board of Canvassers?
This board completes canvas and certification of primaries and elections, conducts recounts, and inspects ballot containers.

Who is on the Muskegon County Board of Canvassers?

The board is bipartisan, per state requirements. This means membership is made up of both political parties and recommendations for appointment comes from the Party Chairperson.

What does the Musk. Co. Board of Canvassers do?

The Muskegon County Board of Canvassers certify state and federal election results, from the county. After certification the Board sends the results to the State Board of Canvassers for approval.


What is a precinct?

A precinct is the smallest political unit in the country. All voters in a precinct vote at one location.

Who is/can be a Precinct Delegate?

A precinct delegate is elected by the voters of the precinct and serve as a bridge between voters and the Democratic or Republican Party. Delegates represent the precinct at the Democratic or Republican meetings.

Who are Precinct Inspectors?

Precinct inspectors are paid to work at the polls on Election Day.
Registered voters interested must submit an election inspector application to their local clerk.

When can I apply?

Applicants must include their name, address, date of birth, and political party preference.Contact your local clerk beginning early June. All Precinct inspectors must complete training prior to serving at the polls. Trained inspectors are eligible to work anywhere in the county.
